About Me

Last update: 9/2026

UPDATE 2024: I’m thrilled to announce that I have accepted an offer to pursue a fully funded PhD in Art History at the University of Delaware, beginning Fall ’24!
UPDATE 2026: I’ve passed all my coursework and exams and now am officially ABD (All But Dissertation)!

Greetings! My name is Deniz, and I am a zoologist who went back to grad school to study art history and visual culture! My current research focuses on animal images (technically, zooiconology) via intersections of natural history with art history (broadly construed to include visual and material culture history). While my PhD dissertation will be focused on the early modern European era, my broader research is open to anything and everything from around the world, ancient to modern!

This website and its accompanying social media feeds are works in progress. I am working on a major overhaul for the coming academic year (26-27) to better align with both my current research projects and the new Animal Aspects group I founded at UD. Stay tuned for updates!

You can find me at the links above, or use the contact form below to get in touch anytime. Cheers 🙂
