ANIMAL ART OF THE DAY for International Polar Bear Day: Richard Friese’s Polar Bears

Happy International Polar Bear Day! This conservation holiday was founded by Polar Bears International and celebrated annually on the 27th of February, “to coincide with the time period when polar bear moms and cubs are snug in their dens. As part of our celebration, we focus on the need to protect denning families across the Arctic.”

Please enjoy this gallery of works by German animal and landscape artist Richard Friese (1854-1918). His travels took him to both Norway and Canada, where he painted native Arctic wildlife. Among his works from this time are several featuring polar bears, including mothers with cubs.
