A place to schedule and set agendas for Zoom or in-person group meetings, and to share meeting notes after for those who couldn’t make it.
MARCH MEETING RECAP:
Sheng shared info about marine microorganisms as pigments (dinoflagellates, zooanthellae), and gender fluidity in fish! (Deniz has a few books about both color in nature and “queer natural history,” will share recs later)
Carolyn discussed ongoing research about mosquito nets and mosquitoes as sentient agents, and burrowing crawfish as troublemakers in dams & levies! Also discussed book recs re: liquid ecologies. Deniz shared a book rec (Moaquito from the Reaction Books’ Animal series) and recalled seeing mosquitos as a recurring theme in Inuit art. (Examples found and sent to Carolyn, will share with group on forum later too)
Deniz shared book recommendation list for “water” theme, and digital collections of vintage public aquarium posters and Great Barrier Reef travel posters. (Will post links to forum later)
Deniz also promised to work on the website over the weekend to set up an asynchronous meeting space for the group, but we’d still like to keep scheduling monthly Zoom meetings too for those able to attend (will send out poll for April days/times next week). UPDATE: I got this discussion board up and running! 👋
Cheers, Deniz
